My front garden does not look like this anymore, thank god! I now have a beautiful edible front garden. We use less water now growing food than we did growing grass. Best of all I get to eat what I grow, so much better than wasting all that water on grass.
Now I have raised beds. They are wonderful. I spent the morning taking strawberry runners and potting them up for new strawberry plants. That is the amazing thing about strawberries, you never have to buy another strawberry plant again in your whole life. If you harvest the runners and plant them every few years you will have strawberries forever. The process is really quite easy.
Find the "V" part of the strawberry runner and place in a container full of soil. Keep the newly planted specimen hydrated and wait. In 2 or 3 weeks the plant roots out. Cut the umbilical cord from the mom plant and you are done. I planted the new babies in the middle raised bed and left the parents on their right. Strawberries make a ton of runners. Harvest lots of them to make plants for friends and neighbors. Everybody loves a free strawberry plant!
Finished planting all the babies, they are beautiful. I might leave the parent plants one more season in their bed. I will have sooooooooo many strawberries next year!!! This will be fun. Happy Gardening! ~ April
